Friday: All about Embellishments and Bag Making

Embellishments. Aside from the design, the fabric, the cut, and the name of the designer who created the dress, the use of embellishments is a sure way to make clothes look and feel more expensive.

Check out my unfinished bag project at the end of this post!

As a design student, I decided to take Fashion Emebllishment as one of my electives. Although I haven't found my voice as a designer, I wanted to explore the world of beads and swarovskis which I hope will lead to divine creations just like Jun Escario and  Elie Saab's Couture.

For now, I just learned new techniques on how to apply sequins, beads, and crystals. In case I get really really bored, I can now embellish my old shirts so that they could look like those expensive tops from Zara, Topshop and Mango.

I just love those Beads, Sequins, and Crystals!

Right after our Embellishment class, we continued from where we left off in our project in Bag Making 1. I'm all excited to put together the pieces of my bag but at the same time I am also nervous... very nervous.

I just love the print of my textile.

I am nervous because this is the day that marks my first attempt to use a sewing machine. Yes, I don't know how to sew and after hearing a horror story about a girl who had a sewing needle broke inside her finger as it struck her bone, I freaked out and transcended through all levels of anxiety.

Pins are now in place... my dreaded moment is almost here.

Obviously, I wasn't able to take pictures as I face the high speed sewing machine. It was like driving for the first time. You have your gas and break pedals but instead of running over people, you risk having your finger being sewn together. Yikes! To make the long story short, I survived the class with all my fingers intact. Although my lines weren't that straight, at least I was able to produce a decent output. Anyways, I am just a beginner and I know that just like everything, it is a learning process.

The unfinished fruit of my anxiety.

Next week, we will install the handles and the bag's lining. I am so excited to finish this bag! For now, I will continue with my other secret project because it's deadline is just a few days away. I won't spill the beans right now but I will post it once I am done.

I hope you enjoyed this post! I promise to do more features about designers and other trivia once I am done with my special project. Au revoir for now!

    1. Oh! That's a great idea. I have some extra fabric so I guess I can do that... if I'mnot too busy. ^_^
